Save Energy with Combined Heat and Power (CHP)

Energy Efficient Heating and Cooling Solutions for Commercial and Industrial Sectors

Achieve 20-30% Reduction in Energy Bills with Combined Heat and Power (CHP)

Combined Heating and Power (CHP) is the simultaneous generation of usable heat and power (usually electricity) in a single process.

Combined heat and power (CHP) – Cut Carbon Emissions, Save Energy Costs and Increase Sustainability

CHP is a flexible and secure source of on-site heat and power generation.

The electricity is generated on or close to your site – allowing you to capture and use the resulting waste heat for site applications.

Where can it be used?

CHP can be used on any site where there is a high demand for heat (or cooling) throughout the year.  Those in both the commercial and industrial sector can benefit from the installation of CHP; including:

  • Chemical manufacturers
  • Oil-refineries
  • Paper manufacturers / printers
  • Food and Drink

Large community heating schemes:

  • Hospitals
  • Universities
  • Hotels
  • Leisure Centres

How does it save money?

SMARTech energy has an innovative power purchase agreement framework which allows you to access the benefits of combined heat and power without any upfront costs.  The heat and electricity generated from a CHP unit is sold to you at discounted utility rate (typically 10%).

From day one, you will save on utility bills without any upfront costs.

How does it save energy?

CHP makes more efficient use of primary fuel for producing heat and power than separate conventional methods and brining energy generation onsite, reduces the typical electrical transmission losses; which results in a more efficient use of energy.

Environmental and Costs Savings

A combined Heat and Power system can deliver a number of financial, environmental and operational benefits.

CHP Financial Savings

The financial benefits are particularly attractive to businesses.  CHP uses fuel in a more efficient manner and, as such, savings of up to 30% can be achieved in capital expenditure projects and up to 10% in power purchase agreements.

CHP Environmental benefits

Emissions are estimated to be lower than traditional electricity and heat generation systems.

CHP installation at Framptons achieves £110k savings per year

Framptons is a supplier of contract packaging and a processor of liquid foods based in Somerset and as such, has a high and continuous requirement for heat.

The site’s main power load was reaching maximum capacity and so Framptons wanted a solution which increased their electrical power capabilities – and additionally enabled financial savings and energy and carbon reduction.

SMARTech energy created a business case for the installation of a 865kW combined heating and power system (CHP) – as they are designed to work with waste heat recovery boilers.

The total financial savings to the client for this project is approximately £110k per annum.

*The client was also paying approximately £46k per year on a hire boiler, but the new CHP system includes a waste heat recovery boiler.

Onsite electricity and heat generation now means that the client has more flexibility and a secure energy supply.
